Stage 1


  • UL.1: a student recognises and responds to words, phrases and simple sentences in spoken Chinese

  • UL. 4: a student demonstrates developing writing skills by recognising and copying Chinese

Complete Mandarin Stage 3, or approximately 80 to 100 hours of prior study.

Macro skills

 

  • Speak fluently in standard Chinese for basic everyday communication
  • A sound grounding in basic Chinese grammar and a core written vocabulary which will provide a frame work for development of reading and writing skills as well as to ensure permanent and extension of speaking skills
  • Proficiency in the reading and writing of simplified characters and in the use of the pinyin system
